CHANGES TO INTEREST BEING PAID ON SAVINGS ACCOUNTS
The Government has introduced from 6th April 2016 a tax free Personal Savings Allowance on the interest you earn on your savings. From this date, the first £1,000 of savings that a basic rate taxpayer earns (£500 for higher rate taxpayers) will be free from income tax.
In line with other Banks we will now pay your interest gross and you will need to make arrangements to pay any tax you may owe directly to HM Revenue & Customs..

AER stands for Annual Equivalent Rate and illustrates what the interest rate would be if interest was paid and compounded once each year.
Gross is the contractual rate of interest payable before the deduction of income tax at the rate specified by law.
Net is the rate of interest which would be payable after allowing for the deduction of income tax at the specified rate.
